MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- As Democrat Tammy Baldwin tries to become the first women elected U.S. senator from Wisconsin, her backers are pushing the message that her Republican challenger Tommy Thompson is wrong for women.
Democratic lawmakers and others on Wednesday hosted round table forums to discuss Baldwin's record on women's issues and to attack Thompson. The effort comes in the midst of a barrage of negative ads showing unflattering footage of Baldwin shouting at a rally earlier this year, "You're damn right!"
The latest Marquette University Law School poll released Wednesday shows Baldwin leading Thompson 47 percent to 43 percent.
The poll of 1,243 likely voters was done between Oct. 25 and Sunday and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.8 percentage points.
