UPDATE: 2nd Suspect in Beloit Shooting Arrested; 3rd Still at Large

UPDATED Tuesday, March 12, 2013 --- 10:30 a.m.

Press Release from the Beloit Police Department:

On March 11, 2013, at about 3:25 p.m., the Beloit Police Department was notified that Samuel L. Jones, B/M, 02/01/1983, had been arrested in Chicago, IL. Jones had been taken into custody on Beloit’s Attempted 1st Degree Intentional Homicide warrant. The warrant was issued as a result of an investigation into a shooting that occurred in the 1300 block of E. Grand on August 4, 2012.

Jones is being held in the Cook County Jail awaiting his extradition proceeding back to Wisconsin. The Rock County District Attorney’s office will be coordinating the extradition with the Illinois State’s Attorney office.

A second suspect in this incident, Terrell Peppers, B/M, 05/13/1981, was arrested on December 12, 2012 and is awaiting his trial.

The third and final suspect, Charles A. Steel, B/M, 10/01/1982, remains at large and a warrant for Attempted 1st Degree Homicide is in effect for him.

Press Release from the Beloit Police Department:

On December 19, 2012, the Beloit Police Department was notified by the Chicago Police Department that they had arrested Terrell M. Peppers. Peppers was taken into custody for Beloit’s Attempted 1st Degree Homicide warrant. The warrant was a result of a shooting that occurred in the early morning hours of August 4, 2012 in the 1300 block of E. Grand.

The Beloit Police Department will coordinate with the Rock County District Attorney’s Office on the extradition of Peppers to Rock County. The time frame for this is unknown at this time.

UPDATED Sunday, August 5, 2012 --- 2:01 p.m.

From the City of Beloit Police Department:

The investigation into the shooting reported on August 4, 2012 has identified three suspects.

The following individuals are wanted by the Beloit Police Department for their involvement in the
shooting:

SAMUEL L. JONES
DOB: 02/01/1983
B/M 5’11” 280#

TERRELL PEPPERS
DOB: 05/13/1981
B/M 5’10” 180#

CHARLES A. STEEL
DOB: 10/01/1982
B/M 5’9” 185#

The Beloit Police Department will be working with the Rock County District Attorney’s Office on Monday (08/06/12) to secure warrants for Attempted 1st Degree Intentional Homicide against
these suspects.

These individuals should be considered armed and dangerous. Persons with information on their whereabouts should call 9-1-1 or Beloit Crime Stoppers, 362-7463.

From the City of Beloit Police Department:

On August 4, 2012, shortly after 1:00 A.M., Beloit Officers responded to the area of The Turtle Tap, 1344 E. Grand Av. for a report of shots fired.

Upon arrival, evidence of a shooting was discovered in the parking lot of The Turtle Tap.

Minutes later, the 911 Center received a call that there was a gunshot wound victim in the area of Nelson and Keeler Avenues.

Officers found a vehicle abandoned at this intersection that had sustained damage from several gun shots. There was blood inside the vehicle indicating that an occupant had been injured.

Officers followed a blood trail from the vehicle to a residence in the 1200 block of Keeler Av. This residence was found to be unoccupied at the time but there was evidence indicating the victim had been here.

At about 1:50 A.M., a Rockford IL hospital advised that they were treating a patient for gunshot wounds. The patient indicated he had been shot in Beloit. The interview of this victim confirmed he had been shot while in a vehicle in the Turtle Tap parking lot. The victim fled the scene and drove to Nelson and Keeler. He went to the residence in the 1200 of Keeler for assistance. The victim received a ride from a friend to the hospital.

The victim is a 22 year old male from Beloit.

The victim sustained non-life threatening wounds and has been admitted to the hospital in good condition.

Beloit Detectives and Evidence Technicians were utilized to interview witnesses and process the scenes.

Due to other police activity within the City of Beloit, Beloit Police received mutual aid assistance from the following agencies: Beloit Township PD, Rock County Sheriff’s Office, Janesville PD K-9, Winnebago (IL) County Sheriff’s Dept. and S. Beloit PD.

The incident remains under investigation. Individuals with information of this shooting are encouraged to call the Beloit Police Department, 364-6801, or Beloit Crime Stoppers, 362-7463.
