VIDEO REPORT: Bison Jack's Selling $20 Hot Dogs

A local restaurant is raising eyebrows by raising its prices to $20 for a hot dog.

About two weeks ago, Bison Jack's in Middleton began charging $20 plus tax for all its meals. Most of their bison dog specials were previously priced at about $8.

The restaurant is a "pilot" store for a company based in Denver, and the first in the country. It opened a little more than a year ago. A local staffer tells NBC 15 the store is not closing, but when we went inside Friday none of the food or toppings were already prepared and we did not see any other customers.

A spokesperson for the company contacted NBC 15 promising more information. We will update this story as soon as we receive it.

I went to one of the restaurants there. Extremely small portions and very high prices and it wasn't anything to jump up and down about. In this economy, who's wants to spend that kind of money. People need to be saving.

Joe Ricketts owns Bison Jack's in Greenway Station as well The Chicago Cubs. He is no doubt charging $20 for a bison dog because he's trying to recoup part of the $10 million he spent on the Romney/Ryan campaign. Sorry but I wouldn't have been dropping in for any bison dogs even if they were free.

Way to captivate and charm people, and grow your customer base. That must be one HECK of a big wiener.

Word in Greenway Station is that they were losing money to begin with and want to close. Greenway Station will not let them close due to a contract they signed. So instead of buying product and pay for a staff, the manager opens the store the latest possible moment to contract and closes when the contract allows and is the only person on staff. Everything is $20, including soft drinks, and everything is made to order.
