UPDATE: Homeowner Believed Victim of Green Lake fire

UPDATED Wednesday, February 6, 2013 --- 2:57 p.m.

GREEN LAKE, Wis. (AP) -- Authorities believe a 66-year-old woman who lived alone was the victim of a fatal house fire in Green Lake County.

Sheriff's officials say the homeowner has yet to be found. But the remains have not yet been positively identified.

Firefighters responded to a house engulfed in flames in the Township of Princeton around 4 a.m. Tuesday. While firefighters battled the blaze, crews found a body.

WLUK-TV reports an autopsy conducted Tuesday found that the victim died of fire- and heat-related causes.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.

Information: On Tuesday, February 5, 2013, 4:09am, the Green Lake County Sheriff's E911 Center received two calls concerning "woods" on fire in the area of Sth.73 and Cth.T in the Township of Princeton, Green Lake County. With fire and rescue services paged, a Sheriff's Deputy arrived in the area at 4:12am and determined that the fire was on Judy Lane, South of Cth.T, adjacent to the northwest end of Big Green Lake. The Deputy also determined that the fire originated from a home and that the home was fully engulfed.

Princeton Fire/Rescue and Emergency Medical Services arrived on Judy Lane at 4:24am and during the suppression efforts discovered the remains of one deceased individual. The Green Lake County Coroners Office and State Fire Marshal were then called.

As of 10:00am fire suppression efforts ceased. The scene has been secured by fire investigators and law enforcement. The remains of the one individual have been taken to the Fond Du Lac County Medical Examiners Office for autopsy. Positive identification has yet to be made and may take an extended amount of time. It is not known if the human remains are that of the home owner, however, the home owner has yet to be located.

This case remains under investigation by the Green Lake County Sheriff's Office, Wisconsin State Fire Marshall's Office, Green Lake County Coroner's Office and the Princeton Fire Department.

Additional units responding to this fatal fire were Green Lake County Med1 paramedic unit, Markesan Fire, and Green Lake Fire services.

A supplemental release may be issued when additional information becomes available.
