UPDATE: Madison Police Arrest Suspected Robber

Incident Date: 11/20/2012 - 2:32 AM

Address: 300 block W. Gorham St.

Arrested: Joseph Finney III, age 42, Madison/Milwaukee
Mr. Finney III was arrested for Bail Jumping. He is a suspect in 4 recent Madison robberies.

Details: On Tuesday, November 20th, the MPD arrested a 42-year old man in the downtown area after he tried to sell diners in a W. Gorham St. restaurant a laptop computer. The suspect was told to leave as police were called regarding the suspicious behavior. Mr. Joseph Finney III was taken into custody on bail jumping charges. He claimed the computer he was selling belonged to a girlfriend. Detectives have now named Mr. Finney as the primary suspect in 4 recent robberies: 2 that took place on November 3rd and 2 that occurred on November 15th.

UPDATED Thursday, November 15, 2012 --- 6:36 p.m.

At 5:40 this morning the suspect who's described as a black male, with a thin to medium build and about 6'3 entered the PDQ on the 4700 block of Lien Road.

He had on a black wind breaker, grey hoody, a Packers hat and faded jeans. He fled with an undisclosed amount of cash and was last seen traveling south on North Thompson Drive.

Howard Payne, the Madison Police Department's Public Information Officer, says two hours before that a PDQ on the 2500 block of Fish Hatchery Road was hit. The suspect's description in both cases is similar. It also matches two other reported robberies.

One of the first robberies happened on the 2400 block of West Broadway on November 3rd. In that case, just like many of the others the crook struck in the morning.

About two hours earlier he hit the PDQ on the 6200 block of McKee road. In almost all the robberies a weapon is either shown or implied and the crook makes off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Howard Payne says, " The thing we have to rely upon at this particular point is making sure we can recover any evidence. Whether it's video surveillance, witness statements and be able to pin all that information together. "

The suspect is described as a black male with a thin to medium build. He is between 6'0 and 6'6. He's between his late 20's to 40-years.

We did contact PDQ for a comment. However they declined our request for an interview.

POSTED: Thursday, November 15, 2012 --- 9:30 a.m.

Madison Police are investigating two overnight robberies of PDQ Stores. The robberies appear to have similarities, but police have said whether they suspect the same person of committing them.

FIRST INCIDENT
Release from MPD: (PDQ on Fish Hatcher Road, 3:12 AM)

Suspect entered PDQ and asked for change. When till was open, suspect demanded money and and implied gun but no weapon seen. Suspect received an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing on foot. Last seen headed northbound on S Fish Hatchery Rd. K-9 track conducted to 2500 blk S Fish Hatchery Rd. Suspect not located at this time. No injuries to clerk.

Suspect description: black male, late 20s-early30s 6'3"-6'6", thin build, wearing a red beanie cap and dark jacket.

Victim 23 yr old male clerk, Belleville resident, no injuries.

SECOND INCIDENT:
Release from MPD: (PDQ on Lien Road, 5:40 AM)

Details On 11/15/2012, at 5:40am, Madison Police were dispatched to the PDQ Store reference a robbery. Officers determined that the suspect had fled southbound on N. Thompson Drive with an undisclosed amount of currency. No weapon was seen or implied. The suspect remains at large, no injuries were sustained in this ordeal, and this matter continues to be investigated by police.

Suspect Description:
Black male, light to medium complexion, 6'03", thin/medium build, wearing a black wind breaker/grey hoody, Green Bay Packer hat, and faded jeans.
