Madison firefighters say a car crashed into an apartment building Wednesday morning, severing a gas meter.
The crash happened at 2413 Fish Hatchery Road. Firefighters say a woman hit a traffic light at the intersection of Park and Badger Rd. before hitting the building. The driver and a 7-year-old girl in the car were not injured. The child was buckled into a booster seat.
When fire crews arrived, they could smell natural gas. Additional crews responded to help evacuate residents.
Firefighters and MG&E workers ventilated the building after the gas was shut off. Residents have since been allowed back into their apartments.
MG&E is installing a new gas meter for the building.
Madison Metro provided a bus for residents to use to keep warm during the incident.
