Press Release from the Dane Co. Sheriff's Office:
Madison, WI. March 8, 2013 – Shortly after 9:00 pm on Thursday, March 7th, Dane County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home on Water Street in the Village of Cambridge for a domestic altercation. When they arrived they found an 18-month-old and a 4-year-old home alone and surrounded by broken glass. Deputies are seeking their mother, Lauren E. Hughes, age 25.
An anonymous caller to 911 reported hearing yelling and items being thrown and broken inside the home. Deputies found the 18-month-old sleeping on the living room floor amidst broken glass from a mirror and other household knick-knacks. A short time after deputies arrived, the children’s maternal grandfather came to the house and called the children’s father who also returned. The children’s father stated that an argument between the couple escalated when Hughes began to throw and break items around the house, and at that point he left. Hughes then left a short time later, leaving the children home alone and the front door unlocked.
Once in custody, Hughes will be arrested for Disorderly Conduct (domestic), Criminal Damage to Property (domestic) and Neglect of a Child. Both of the domestic charges will be felonies, as Hughes was just arrested related to another domestic altercation on Wednesday, March 6th. She bailed out of the Dane County Jail later that night.
