Madison police say concerned citizens followed an intoxicated hit-and-run driver for several miles Thursday afternoon before he was eventually arrested.
The crash took place at the intersection of S. Stoughton Road and Pflaum Road. Officers say Patrick Dolan of Sun Prairie rear ended a car before fleeing.
A Madison woman saw the man weaving from lanes onto gravel shoulders. The driver also stopped in the middle of the road for no apparent reason, and nearly had a head-on crash with two approaching vehicles.
According to police, Dolan eventually pulled over and was found passed out behind the wheel when a officer arrived. Citizens had kept police updated on his location.
Officers say Dolan blew a .374 at the Dane County Jail, nearly 2 and a half hours after allegedly driving away from the crash scene.
