UPDATE: Ex-Sheboygan Mayor Takes Plea Deal in Groping Case

UPDATED Monday, February 18, 2013 --- 4:17 p.m.

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (AP) -- Former Sheboygan mayor Robert Ryan has pleaded no contest to reduced charges of disorderly conduct for a 2011 incident in which he was accused of groping a woman's breasts during a drinking binge in Elkhart Lake.

Ryan pleaded not guilty last May to two sexual assault charges from the incident on July 23, 2011. Under Monday's plea agreement, he pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct. His trial was due to begin Tuesday. His sentencing is set for Wednesday. Each count carries up to 90 days jail and a $1,000 fine.

District Attorney Joe DeCecco says disorderly conduct includes "profane" or "indecent" conduct and actions that unreasonably offend the community's sense of decency or propriety.

Ryan lost a recall last year. He has acknowledged he's an alcoholic.

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (AP) -- A criminal complaint alleges ex-Sheboygan Mayor Bob Ryan grabbed a woman's breasts twice during a drinking binge last July and claimed he could do whatever he wanted because of who he was.

Ryan was voted out of office in a recall election Feb. 21. He was charged late last week with two counts of misdemeanor fourth-degree sexual assault. Ryan adamantly denied grabbing the woman to investigators, but he has acknowledged he's an alcoholic.

The complaint alleges the 30-year-old woman was seated at the bar at Siebkens Resort in Elkhart Lake when Ryan approached her from behind and squeezed both her breasts, over her clothing. It says she told Ryan to keep his hands off her, but he did it again several minutes later.

Ryan is due in court April 23.

Well at least you avoided saying he "copped a plea" in the headline.
