Court Erases Injunction Against UW Protester

Posted Thursday, January 24, 2013 --- 10:44 a.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A state appeals court has vacated a restraining order the University of Wisconsin System took out against a former legislator's son.

Jeff Decker, son of former state Senate Majority Leader Russ Decker, has been working to embarrass UW officials over what he believes are illegal student fees.

The system took out a restraining order against the younger Decker in 2011 after alleging he became angry during a meeting with the UW-Stevens Point chancellor, disrupted a Board of Regents meeting and trespassed on system property.

The 4th District Court of Appeals reversed the restraining order in a ruling Thursday, concluding Decker was legitimately exercising his right to publicly protest.

The state Justice Department is representing the system in the case. An agency spokeswoman had no immediate comment.
