Suspect(s) Male, white, early 20's, 5'10", 155 lbs., brown hair, bad teeth, carrying a blue backpack.

Arrested:
Benjamin A. Thomas, age 22, no permanent address
Mr. Thomas was arrested of October 5th on tentative charges of Burglary, and Attempted Burglary - 3 counts.

Victim:
Male, age 30, Madison

Details:
A MPD investigator was able to lift a finger print from one of the targeted homes. That print was then analyzed in the MPD’s Forensic Laboratory, where it was connected to a suspect.

On October 5th, a MPD detective began following the suspect after spotting him getting into a vehicle on Cottage Grove Rd. The suspect was driven to a neighborhood near Lakeside St. where he got out. The detective believes the suspect was casing out more homes to burglarize.

The suspect was contacted and later made admissions regarding his criminal behavior. He told the detective he is a heroin user and was breaking into homes in order to support his habit. He said he typically would go to doors to see if anyone was home. If someone answered he would say something like: “Is Brian here?” If no one came to the door he would look for a way to break-in.

A 30-year old north side man called for police late Tuesday afternoon after discovering his Armistice Lane home had been burglarized.

A criminal gained entry by removing a screen and raising a side window. Electronics were stolen as well as some cash.

Officers also learned there had been two other attempted burglaries on the street that afternoon where screens had been removed but no entry made. One resident reported a man came to her door around 1:30 p.m. asking for "Brian." When he was told "Brian" did not live there, he left. The witness saw the man walking toward the back yard of another home, and then lost sight of him.

Suspect Description:
White Male, early 20's, 5'10", 155 lbs., brown hair, bad teeth, carrying a blue backpack.
