Incident Report from the Madison Police Department:

Incident Type:Stolen Bicycle

Incident Date: 01/18/2013 - 12:10 PM

Address: N. Orchard St.

Arrested: Randall J. Wallace, age 52, Madison
Mr. Wallace was arrested for Receiving Stolen Property.

Victim: Female, age 64, Madison

Details: A 64-year old Madison woman worked with the MPD to set up a sting to get her stolen $645 bicycle back Friday afternoon. The victim had previously reported it missing from a storage area inside her N. Segoe Rd. apartment building. She found it for sale on Craigslist. The seller claimed, in an email exchange, with the victim that: "This bike is an excellent deal. I'm only selling it because I'm unemployed and about to be evicted."

He told the victim he had gotten the bike as a Christmas gift, and was willing to part with it for $300. She arranged to take the bike, her bike, for a test ride. It was agreed that this would happen at a specific address on N. Orchard St. What the seller did not know, was that police officers were watching the whole thing.

Once the victim knew for certain the bike was hers, the suspect was arrested. He now claimed to have found it abandoned in a snow bank. He was arrested for receiving stolen property.
