According to the Madison Police Department, a 14-year-old was stopped in a stolen vehicle from the Wisconsin Dells Saturday night.
Officials said a vehicle was found Friday night abandoned in the drive-thru of the McDonald’s on Verona Road. The 14-year-old had two 13-year-old male passengers with him in a Mercury Milan that had been stolen from the Milwaukee area.
According to a release, at about 7:45 p.m., the 14-year-old drove the car into another vehicle with a mother and daughter in it. There was significant damage to both cars, but no one was seriously hurt.
The two 13-year-old passengers stayed in the vehicle, but the 14-year-old ran from the scene.
Then on Saturday night, police stopped a stolen vehicle from the Wisconsin Dells on Madison’s south side after a short pursuit. The driver was the same 14-year-old involved in the crash Friday night.
Just before 10 p.m. an officer noticed a Ford Expedition erratically exiting the westbound Beltline near Todd Drive, officials said. The officer recognized the vehicle as a being stolen from the Dells and initiated a traffic stop.
The driver refused to stop until reaching the 3000 block of Ashford Lane in the Arbor Hills neighborhood, according to the release.
Numerous officers responded to the scene because the occupants of the vehicle were not initially cooperative, officials said. Officers eventually took the 14-year-old driver and three teenage girls into custody.
The 14-year-old is a Madison-area juvenile who was AWOL from a Milwaukee-area group home, according to the release. He faces tentative charges of hit and run, reckless driving and two counts of driving a vehicle without the owners' consent.
