CrimeTracker15: Cash stolen in downtown apartment invasion by masked robbers

A downtown State Street resident was robbed in an apartment invasion Tuesday morning, according to the Madison Police Department.

A 22-year-old man was at his State Street apartment around 5:05 a.m. when two men forced their way inside.

Officials said the victim told police he thought one of the men was armed with a gun, although he did not see a firearm.

The man told police the robbers asked where the money was kept and fled with a large amount of cash.

The victim's 22-year-old roommate was also home, however, none of her property was taken.

Police said the robbery was not random, according to a release.

One of the robbers was described as black, in his 20s, 6 feet 2 inches tall and 230 pounds, police said. He wore a large black puffy jacket, jeans, dark sneakers, black knit beanie-style hat and a black and white bandanna over his face, officials said.

The other robber was described as black, in his 20s, 5 feet 11 inches tall, 160 pounds with a medium build, according to the report. He was wearing a large black jacket over dark hooded sweatshirt, jeans, sneakers and a black bandanna, according to the release.

The victim is not a University of Wisconsin-Madison student.
