CrimeTracker 15: Baraboo Stabbing Investigation

Stabbing in Baraboo – Suspect in Custody

On January 16, 2012 at approx. 9:30am the Baraboo Police Department received a call of a male who had been stabbed at a residence locate at 1300 Lincoln Avenue in the City of Baraboo. Upon officers arrival they located a 49-year-old Baraboo man who had sustained a stab wound to his abdominal area. The suspect had reportedly departed in a vehicle. Baraboo EMS transported the victim to the hospital where he was later transferred to the University of Wisconsin Hospital via Med-Flight.

The suspect, a 50-year-old male DANIEL E. OLSON, from Madison had reportedly departed in a Black 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe with WI plate 797HLH. Information to surrounding agencies was communicated via Dispatch and “Nixle” was used to communicate information of the offender to the public.

Investigation revealed OLSON had arrived at the victim’s residence, 1300 Lincoln Avenue, in an attempt to locate his estranged wife. Upon his arrival OLSON was confronted by the victim and a scuffle ensued resulting in OLSON stabbing the victim in the abdominal area causing severe injury. OLSON then departed the scene in his vehicle.

At approx. 12:30pm OLSON was located on a citizen tip at a residence on Hatchery Road in rural Baraboo. The Sauk County Sheriff’s department attempted negotiating OLSONS surrender without success. OLSON was eventually taken into custody after being tased.

DANIEL E. OLSON, a 50-year-old Madison man, was arrested and transported to St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo to be evaluated following being tased. He will then be transported to the Sauk County Jail. Charges are being reviewed by the Sauk County District Attorney’s Office.

Right now authorities are searching for 50-year-old Daniel E. Olson, of Madison.

He is wanted for a stabbing this morning in Baraboo.

According to the Baraboo Police Department, Olson traveled to a residence in Baraboo, where he allegedly stabbed his estranged wife’s boyfriend.

Olson fled in a 2011 Black Chevy Tahoe with a Wisconsin license plate No. 797HLH.

The victim's stab wounds are life threatening; he has been taken via
Med Flight to UW Hospital in Madison.

Olson is currently not in custody. Baraboo police are working with Madison police and Wisconsin State Patrol to arrest him.
