From the Stoughton Police Department:
On Monday February 6th at 10:17 am, a 35 year old male resident of Stoughton called the Stoughton Police Department to report his rear garage door damaged near Sandhill Elementary School. Officers responded and investigated the incident with apparently nothing missing.
At 12:24 pm, the same 35 year old male called police reporting he had just been confronted and struck in the head with a shovel by a younger black male in his garage. The victim was able to retreat inside his home and secured the door. The suspect threatened the victim telling him he had a gun.
Stoughton Police, Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies and Town of Madison Police K-9 unit responded to the scene. Nearby residents reported they observed the suspect fleeing the area east of the scene on a bicycle. As a precaution during the incident, Sandhill Elementary School was locked down because of the threat of a gun and the close proximity to the school.
At 2:42 pm, Stoughton Police took the suspect, Eugene James Mann Jr, 17, Stoughton, into custody in Norse Park which is east of the scene.
Stoughton Police will be booking Mann into the Dane County Jail on a charge of Burglary, a Class E Felony with additional charges pending. This case remains under investigation.
