Incident Date:

Address:
620 Whitney Way (Copps)

Suspect(s):
Male, black, 30-40 years old, 5'8" to 5'11", 165 to 185 pounds, very short hair or shaved head, wearing glasses, a dark coat, faded jeans, and dark tennis shoes. He was carrying a red recyclable grocery bag.

Victim:
Female, age 88, Madison
Female, age 84, Madison

Details:
The 88-year-old woman was very emotional, and cried throughout her contact with an officer. Her walking cane was still in her grocery cart, but her purse was gone.

The MPD was called to meet with her inside Copps, 620 Whitney Way, on Sunday afternoon, February 19th.

The victim said she had been looking at canned tomatoes when a man came up and told her what a good deal those tomatoes were. Although she told him she did not need additional in-store discount fliers, he went and got her some anyway. When he came back, he dropped one on the floor, and asked the victim if she would pick it up. She told him she was "stiff" and that would be difficult, but she did it anyway. While she was bent over the thief took her purse and ran.

On February 5th, an 84-year old woman had her purse taken from her cart while she was looking at birthday cards inside the same store. She did not see who took her purse.

A detective has been assigned the two cases.
