Crossing Guard Recognition Week January 14-18

Posted Friday, January 11, 2013 --- 3:07 p.m.

Press Release from the City of Madison:

Crossing Guard Recognition Week
MPD Urges Students To Say "Thanks"

Monday marks the start of Adult School Crossing Guard Recognition Week in Wisconsin (January 14 to 18).

Here in Madison, every school day, there are 58 very dedicated adult crossing guards keeping young people safe at 48 busy locations.

Next week, students are encouraged to recognize their guard in some manner, even if it is just saying thank you as they cross.

The MPD would also like to remind drivers that laws require them to not only stop as children cross, but to remain stopped until the guard has returned to the curb. Guards indicate that it is not uncommon for drivers to begin to move as soon as children have passed their vehicles.
