UPDATE: Name Released In Madison Death Investigation

UPDATED Tuesday, January 22, 2013 --- 12:40 p.m.

Update from the Madison Police Department:

A woman, who had just left her church, was one of the first on the scene after a seriously injured 66-year old Madison man was found lying in traffic on a dark section of Portage Rd. Sunday night.

The parishioner is a nurse, and she provided life-saving measures until first-responders arrived.

The victim was transported to a hospital, but did not survive.

The Dane County Medical Examiner determined Aryle J. Dahlke died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head and neck.

It has not been determined how he was injured, but there is no evidence to suggest that he was in a physical confrontation. It appears he had just visited a fast-food restaurant and was walking to his nearby home, likely between 7:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

His injuries are consistent with Mr. Dahlke being struck by the undercarriage of a vehicle; however, it is possible he was already lying in the roadway at the time of this contact. Mr. Dahlke was clad in dark clothing.

The MPD is seeking citizen help in this case. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Madison Area Crime Stoppers at (608) 266-6014.
