RACINE, Wis. (AP) -- Racine police say a 7-year-old boy was seriously hurt when a pit bull attacked and bit him.
Authorities say the boy was playing at a cousin's house Friday when the noise of the boys playing disturbed the dog.
Police say the dog ran to the 7-year-old and attacked him.
The boy's mother and a man pulled the dog off him. A police spokesman says the boy, who is from Kenosha, was seriously injured with flesh removed down to the bone.
The boy was taken to a Racine hospital and transferred to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Wauwatosa.
The boy's mother was treated for a puncture wound to her hand.
The Journal Times reports police say the pit bull was unvaccinated and unlicensed. The owner was cited for both violations.
