From the Fitchburg Fire Department:
Firefighters rescued a dog after a house fire caused $200,000 in damage Saturday night.
Firefighters were called to the 1800-block of Derby Drive around 8:30 p.m. Fitchburg officials say flames were shooting through the home's roof and were visible from about a mile away.
Upon arrival, units found a single family residence with a significant body of fire consuming the structure. An aggressive attack by all companies on scene resulted in a rapid knockdown of the fire and preserved the property.
Due to conditions, firefighters performed a "vent, enter, and search" to located any possible victims. During the search they located a dog. The dog was removed and did not suffer any injuries. No one else was home at the time of the fire. Investigators have determined the cause to be accidental and electrical in nature.
