UPDATE: Driver Dead After 2-Vehicle Crash in Grant Co.

UPDATED Wednesday, December 12, 2012 --- 4:18 p.m.

On 12-12-12 an autopsy was completed and a positive identification has been made. Through dental work the driver has been identified as Dennis Novinski, 82 of Blanchardville. It was also determined by the autopsy that Novinski was deceased prior to the vehicle starting on fire. Novinski had multiple internal injuries caused from the impact. This is the fourth fatal accident on Grant County roadways.

Arrest or Charges: This incident is still under investigation.

At 3:35 pm on Tuesday December 11, 2012, the Grant County Communications Center received a report of a two vehicle crash at the intersection of Hwy 151 and Cty O.

Courtney Yuskis, 31 of Des Moines, was southbound on Hwy 151 in a 2012 Ford Taurus when the driver of the 1996 Dodge Dakota pulled onto Hwy 151 from Cty O. Yuskis struck the Dakota in the driver’s side door causing the Dakota to roll onto its side in the median. Right after the crash three concerned citizens stopped to assist the driver of the Dakota out of the truck, one of the citizens is a Cuba City Volunteer Fire Fighter. The three tried to remove the driver from the truck by removing the windshield. As they tried to free the driver, the truck caught fire. They were unable to remove the driver from the truck. Yuskis was transported to Southwest Health Center for minor injuries by Platteville EMS.

The driver of the Dakota was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Grant County Coroner. Seatbelts were used by both occupants. Alcohol or speed is not considered to be a contributing factor in this crash. The name of the deceased is being withheld until an Autopsy and positive identification of the driver is complete.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by Platteville Fire Department, Platteville EMS, UW-P Campus Police, Wisconsin State Patrol, Grant County Coroner’s Office, and Donnies Tire and Auto of Dickeyville.
