VIDEO REPORT: Dog Shot and Killed in Town of Verona

Posted Friday October 19, 2012 --- 4:25 p.m.

Katherine Clark got back to her home on the 3000 block of Timber Lane in the Town of Verona sometime between 1:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. yesterday. Normally the family's two dogs Boomer and Tucker meet her at the door.

" They hear the car pull in and they usually come up to the door to greet me, " says Clark.

But yesterday Boomer was alone. Katherine assumed Tucker, a Labradoodle, stayed outside. He loved playing on the family's close to two acre backyard.

" He didn't show up so I started calling for him and looking for him and he didn't respond to any calls. So, I put on my rain coat and came out into the yard to look for him. "

Katherine checked the backyard from her deck. She didn't see anything so she headed down stairs.

" As I was coming down the steps I saw him, " says Clark. " I was so surprised. I was like what are you doing Tucker? I thought did he fall? What has happened to him? As soon as I touched him I could tell he was dead. "

She called her husband Ken at work and told him the bad news.

" It was a little unbelievable and I asked her to repeat it two or three times, " says Ken. " I was fairly confident from what she was describing that this was not an accident. "

According to Ken there was an entry wound and later on their veterinarian discovered an exit wound.

Since the bullet went through Tucker it may still be on the Clark's property and big clue could be under their feet.

Last night Tucker was laid to rest in the family's backyard. But they say they won't rest until they know who pulled the trigger.

The Clark's have filed a report with the Dane County Sheriff's Department. They're asking anyone who may have heard or seen anything to call the DCSD.

I hope to god that this "C" doesn't own an animal. A person as heartless as that is probably some late 40's single man/woman mad at the world with no life or job to obese to get up and have a job or life. Because court tv is such a way to obtain a detective degree. My heart goes out to this family! I hope they find the heartless person who did this!Dogs love to be outside. They bark because its natural for them. Its their way of communicating. I would be devestated as well and lose alot of sleep over something like this if it ever happened to our family!!

I would be devastated if something like this happened to my dog. So sorry for your family. Unbelievable that someone could say you were at fault… no one has the right to harm your pet, your family, or destroy your property! Hope you'll find out what happened.

C -- Watching Judge Judy does not make you an expert on the law. Raising a question is one thing, but attacking a family when they've apparently done nothing wrong is out of line. They were not "in error" by leaving their dog unattended on their own fenced-in property. If shooting the dog were warranted, it would most likely not have been done anonymously. Leave the detective work to law enforcement, and kindly keep your judgements to yourself.

Wow! This just sickens me to no end. How can a person take an innocent animal's life? I hope they find who committed this act and charge them with a felony. Yes, it was an animal, but that animal was a member of someone's family. Killing an animal is just sick! I am so sorry for this family's loss!

This is awful! Katherine, we share your grief! "C" I'm not sure why you bothered to comment at all. You obviously didn't read the story to know the situation. Please keep comments like these to yourself. No one who is hurting needs to read that garbage!

C - Tucker was in his own fenced in yard. He was the sweetest, most dignified and handsome dog you could ever meet. We are keeping our cool and reaching out to our community for help rather than being vengeful. Thank you to everyone for your support and empathy.

You can hate me for playing detective but I've seen a dog kill twenty chickens, they do it for fun, for sport. Cats are also killers, and I see so many of them running loose it's amazing. One of my neighbors in the city has a dog that they will put outside and it will bark all day long, into the evening, quite annoying and very sad what that dog must be going through to bark incessantly like that, to me that's animal abuse.
