UPDATE: Homicide charge in crash that killed passenger

UPDATED Tuesday, June 24, 2014 --- 6:37 a.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A drunken driving homicide charge has been filed against the driver who crashed into a tree in Dane County and killed his passenger.

Twenty-two-year-old Kurt Laufenberg, of Dane, has been released from jail on $5,000 bond. A criminal complaint says Laufenberg was speeding June 14 before crashing his car in the Town of Berry. Twenty-two-year-old Dylan Lindeman, of Middleton, was killed.

The State Journal reports the complaint says Laufenberg told investigators at the hospital that he drank six beers in three hours before getting behind the wheel that night.

Dane County Sheriff's officials have identified the driver that got hurt iin a crash Saturday morning in the Town of Berry.

The driver was 22-year-old Kurt Laufenberg of Dane.

The single vehicle crash happened in the 800 block of Martinsville Road.

The Dane Co. Medical Examiner's office has identified the passenger that died in a crash Saturday morning in the Town of Berry.

The passenger was 22-year-old Dylan Lindeman of Middleton.

The single vehicle crash happened in the 800 block of Martinsville Road.

At approximately 1:50am, Dane County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a single vehicle fatality crash on Martinsville Rd. at High Rise Rd. in the Township of Berry.

Cross Plains Fire, Cross Plains EMS, Middleton EMS and UW Med flight also responded to the scene.

According to police a Honda Accord was southbound on Martinsville Rd when it failed to slow down at a curve and struck a tree. The driver was transported to a Madison Hospital by Med Flight with serious injuries and the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alcohol and speed are believed to be contributing factors in this crash. The names are not being released pending notification of the families of those involved. The crash remains under investigation.
