MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A convicted felon has been charged with threatening a circuit court judge by leaving a series of threatening and harassing voicemails on her office phone after the judge ruled against him in a small claims case.
Charges were filed Tuesday in Dane County against George W. Bennett, of Madison.
The criminal complaint alleges Bennett made the threats after Dane County Circuit Judge Rhonda Lanford ruled against him June 6.
Bennett faces charges of battery or threat to a judge, telephone harassment, disorderly conduct and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The complaint says Bennett has a lengthy criminal history dating back to 1990, when he threatened to kill two state troopers. A judge Tuesday ordered a mental health evaluation to determine if Bennett was competent to stand trial.
