Baraboo, wi, February 1, 2012: On February 1, 2012 at approximately 10:48 a.m. Baraboo Fire, Baraboo Ambulance and the Baraboo Police Department were dispatch to 11th Street for a reported structure fire in an apartment building. A neighbor, on 12th Street, heard glass breaking, saw smoke and fire coming from an apartment building behind his residence.
Upon arrival of the first fire department unit, the address of the fire was confirmed as 1127 11th Street. There was a working fire inside one apartment of the four unit apartment building.
The first Engine arrived with six personnel. Fire personnel conducted a search of the entire apartment building and found no occupants inside and also extinguished the fire simultaneously. Additional fire personnel arrived in an Aerial Platform and Heavy Squad and assisted with search, suppression and ventilation activities.
The fire was extinguished within 15 minutes of the call. There were no injuries to civilians or fire personnel.
The apartment building is owned by Paul Kujak of Baraboo. The tenants of the apartment where the fire originated are Heather Wilson, Jose Parra and a 9 month old male.
There was extensive damage to this apartment and the occupants are being assisted by the Salvation Army. The remaining apartments and hallway sustained only smoke damage.
Baraboo Fire Department responded with one Engine, an Aerial Platform, a Heavy Rescue Squad and one Command Car.
There is no estimate on the amount of damage done by the fire.
The cause of the fire is not suspicious, but is still under investigation and is ongoing, jointly between the Baraboo Fire Department and Baraboo Police Department.
The family was further assisted at the scene by the Salvation Army.
