UPDATED Tuesday, January 28, 2014 --- 4:11 p.m.

Madison Fire crews spent most of the day Tuesday at the scene of a warehouse fire on the city's east side.

The fire broke out just after 6:00 a.m. on Atlas Avenue.

The fire was contained around 11:00 a.m., but crews are still on the scene.

“If this was in July, it would be an easy fight,” Fire Chief Steven Davis said.

The extreme cold called for a citywide response. Metro Transit provided two warming buses for firefighters. The Streets Division managed drains for hose runoff. Crews helped keep hoses and vehicles from freezing.

Streets crews will also move in to treat all the ice the fire hoses left behind.

Investigators recently gained access to some parts of the building so they can look into the cause of the fire.

Crews continue to battle a warehouse fire on Madison's east side.

The fire is in the 300 block of Atlas Avenue. Firefighters have been there since 6 a.m. Tuesday.

The warehouse belongs to a company that builds homes. It was full of wood and it's expected to burn all day.

Firefighters are taking turns battling the flames and warming up in a Metro bus. The Madison Fire Chief says they cannot be very aggressive putting out the fire because of the extreme cold.

All workers are accounted for and there have been no injuries.
