Red Cross Responds to House Fire in Avoca, WI
(Avoca, WI) The American Red Cross responded Tuesday morning to a residential fire in Avoca, WI. Two locally trained Red Cross disaster responders visited the family of three to provide comfort and recovery information. After being displaced from their home that was destroyed by the blaze, the American Red Cross met the family’s immediate needs of temporary lodging, clothing and food. The Red Cross will continue to work with the family through their recovery by providing additional assistance and community referrals as needed.
When disaster strikes, the local Red Cross can be called upon to meet with affected individuals to identify and meet their immediate emergency needs. Typically, basic human needs such as a place to stay, food, and clothing are provided. In addition to helping with these physical needs, the Red Cross also offers assistance to replace medications or medical equipment destroyed in the disaster and emotional counseling to help those affected cope with the disaster. This assistance is not possible without the generous support from our local communities.

At approximately 9:10 p.m. the Avoca Fire Department and EMS were paged to a possible house fire at 608 Market St. in the Village of Avoca. The first arriving unit found smoke coming from the east side of the single family ranch style residence. Because of the high temperature and humidity mutual aid was requested from numerous departments by Fire Chief Bruce Kienitz.
Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 30 minutes. Fire damage to the structure was extensive. The cause is under investigation.
Assisting departments were Boscobel Fire, Blue River Fire, Highland Fire, Dodgeville Fire, Ridgeway Fire, Muscoda Fire, Lone Rock Fire, Spring Green Fire, Cobb Fire, Linden Fire, Muscoda EMS, Iowa County Sheriff’s Department, Avoca Police Department, Iowa County Emergency Management, Alliant Energy and WE Energy.
