The Nine Springs Golf Course in Fitchburg will remain just that, for now.
Tuesday night, the Fitchburg Common Council voted to keep Nine Springs a golf course through 2015. Currently, the city pays $20,000 annually to operate the course.
The idea to turn the course into a park has been debated years. The course, on Traceway Drive, is in a neighborhood many local lawmakers say is in desperate need of a park alternative. Despite the need, and much park support fro local residents, council voted to keep the course. But, members will still continue discussing the addition of a park in the area.
NBC 15 spoke with the course manager following the vote. He calls it a win for the city. “This golf course has done a lot more than just provide a recreational facility and it's wonderful for that” says Sam Schultz, Nine Springs Golf Course Manager.
