Fitzgerald: Senate won't do campaign finance bill

Posted Friday, December 27, 2013 --- 2:25 p.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin state Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald says the Senate will not vote on a bill that would double the amount people could donate to political campaigns.

Fitzgerald tells The Associated Press there is not support for the bill in the Senate. It passed the Assembly with broad bipartisan support in June.

Fitzgerald said Friday that "there's not an appetite" to vote on doubling campaign contribution limits. He says the bill would have to undergo major changes before the Senate would take it up.

The bill must pass both chambers in identical form and be signed by Gov. Scott Walker before it can become law.

The contribution limits haven't been raised since the 1970s.
