McCarthy Youth and Conservation Park has been around since the 1970s. The land at County Highway TT in Cottage Grove was originally intended to serve as a place where area kids can go to have fun outdoors and learn something new.
Right now, the park's future is up in the area, as the county develops a master plan for the park.
Wednesday night, many gathered in Cottage Grove to weigh in on what they'd like to see the park used for.
Everything from a new picnic shelter to a new playground to new bike trails are on the table. But many at the meeting say they're less concerned about adding and more concerned about keeping what's already there.
"It's just a very special place for people and for horses to connect' says Ted Schlueter.
McCarthy Park is currently a place where kids and adults can ride their horses, but some say they aren't too happy with the idea, saying not many utilize the horse trails and that the land could be used in a better way.
Right now, though, the plan is to add more horse trails, not take any away, but nothing is set in stone.
