UPDATE: Grain Elevator Fire in Rock Co.

Press Release from Clinton Fire:

At 1958 (7:58 PM) the Clinton Fire Department responded to the above address for a Commercial Fire in an Agriculture Equipment Maintenance Shop.

Called to a fully involved Commercial Building fire at the above address. Fire crews found the southeast corner of the building fully involved in fire with heavy black smoke coming from the overhead door located on that end. There was a full Anhydrous Ammonia railcar located within 100 feet of the south east corner of the building. Exposures to grain storage bins and a grain dryer were on the west end of the building. There was a large above ground natural gas pipe located on the west end of the building.

The building and contents appear to be a total loss with early estimates not available. Insurance companies from both businesses have been contacted and are enroute.

Several families in Rock County are back in their homes this morning after a fire in a grain elevator. The fire started around 8 p.m. at Gavilon Grain in Avalon. Residents in the area were evacuated and Highway 140 was temporarily closed as a precaution.

Authorities have yet to release a damage estimate.
