From the Grant County Sheriff's Department:
Deputies are investigating a multi-vehicle crash. It occurred on Highway 18, .10 mile east from Stivarious Road. This is west of Montfort.
The crash happened on Tuesday afternoon, at 1:30 p.m.
The three people involved include 86-year-old Dorothy France (2004 Chevy Van), 39-year-old Robert Gruber (2007 Dodge Grand Caravan), and 25-year-old Kaleb Pagel (2005 Chevy Trailblazer).
Here's what happened:
Kaleb Pagel was stopped on STH 18 facing east for a road construction flagger in his 2005 Chevy Trailblazer. Dorothy France was stopped behind Pagel in her 2004 Chevy van. Robert Gruber was traveling east on STH 18 in his 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan and failed to observe the stopped vehicles and flagger. Gruber struck France’s vehicle which then ran into the rear of Pagel’s vehicle.
France was trapped in her vehicle and was extricated by the Montfort and Livingston Fire Departments. France was then transported to Upland Hill’s Hospital in Dodgeville for her injuries by Montfort EMS. Gruber and Pagel received minor injuries and were not transported.
France and Gruber’s vehicles were heavily damaged and were towed from the scene by Haase’s Towing of Montfort. Pagel’s vehicle sustained moderate damage and was driven from the scene.
Charges are pending on Gruber.
