VILLAGE OF HAZEL GREEN, Wis. (AP) -- The attorney for the Village of Hazel Green says the village's police chief resigned last month after he showed up under the influence for an investigative interview.
Village attorney Eileen Brownlee says Police Chief Brian Klein had been on paid leave since Sept. 11 after the village asked Platteville police to investigate claims from residents that Klein had been working while under the influence of alcohol.
Brownlee says Klein registered a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.07 percent when he showed up for an interview with a Platteville detective on Sept. 19. That's just short of Wisconsin's legal drinking limit of 0.08.
Brownlee tells the Wisconsin State Journal the meeting "was the catalyst" for Klein's resignation. It took effect Sept. 30.
The village is located in the southwest corner of Wisconsin.

The Hazel Green Village Attorney says former Police Chief Brian Klein showed up to a police interview while under the influence of alcohol.
Klein recently resigned amid an investigation being conducted by the Platteville Police Department on behalf of the village.
According to the Village Attorney, the investigation stems from three complaints made to the village.
One complaint alleges that Klein may have been impaired by alcohol while working.
Another alleges Klein was not keeping in regular contact with the Grant Co. Sheriff's Department. They reportedly did not know when he was or wasn't working, creating concerns in the dispatch center.
The third complaint alleges Klein asked members of the village to run errands for him while on work time.
As part of the investigation, Klein was required to attend an interview with Platteville Police. According to the Village Attorney, Klein appeared to be under the influence.
A detective asked him to provide a breath test. Klein blew a .07. The interview was at 11:15 in the morning.
Klein has not been arrested, and there are no charges pending.
