On Tuesday morning, November 13, 2012, approximately 4:38am, The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a two vehicle head-on crash. This crash occurred on Hwy 12 near Indian Mound Parkway in the Town of Whitewater.
Upon arrival, Deputies found two vehicles in the eastbound lane of Hwy 12. Preliminary investigation at the scene revealed the following: William D Fojut, age 53, of Whitewater, was traveling westbound on Hwy 12 in a 2009 Chevy Pickup Truck. Fojut crossed the center line and entered the eastbound lane of Hwy 12. David L Wegner, age 54, of Fort Atkinson, was driving eastbound while operating a 2004 GMC Envoy and was struck head on.
Wegner was trapped in his vehicle and required extrication from Whitewater Fire and Rescue. Flight For Life was called and flew Wegner from the scene with multiple injuries. His condition is not known at this time. Fojut was taken by ground ambulance to an area hospital where he was later released with minor injuries. Both men were wearing their seatbelts and both vehicles had airbag deployment.
The Walworth County Crash Investigation Unit was summoned to the scene to coordinate the investigation.
Neither alcohol nor drugs are considered contributing factors to this crash. However, the crash remains under investigation. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Whitewater Police Department, and Whitewater Fire and Rescue Departments.
