From pasta dinners to live entertainment, Festa Italia has everything Italian; and it's going on this weekend in Fitchburg! The desserts were made by members of the Italian American Women's Club, passing down the traditions to the next generation. And that's actually a huge part of Festa Italia, learning about the Italian history and the culture right here in Madison.
"My favorite thing is the food!" said David Rizzo, Festa Chair. Plenty of sweets, spaghetti and sunshine- Festa Italia is gearing up for a busy weekend. "Just celebrate the part of me that is Italian," said Angela Masino, Miss Festa 2014.
Festa Italia is put on by the Italian Workman's Club; celebrating it's 102nd year as a club with 160 members in the area. "We're one of the longest if not the longest running clubs of it's kind in the country," said Rizzo.
So this weekend everyone celebrates everything Italian, with live entertainment, cooking demos, dance lessons to name a few, all of the money raised going back into the community. "The proceeds go to funding our scholarships for high school students here in Madison," Rizzo added.
And the most important thing- paying tribute to the Italian culture. Rizzo added, "It's partly to remember but also to honor the people who have made the country what it is today."
Festa Italia runs through Sunday, and admission is only $2, parking is free.
