News Release from Rock County Sheriff's Dept:
On 12-22-11 at approximately 2023 hrs, a Rock County Deputy was westbound on W. Highway 14 near N. Harvest View Rd., in Janesville Township, when she came upon a two-vehicle accident.
The deputy requested an ambulance for one injured subject and Janesville Fire and EMS personnel were dispatched and arrived a short time later. Highway 14 was closed between N. Burdick Rd. and N. Polzin Rd. while the accident was investigated.
The preliminary investigation shows that a 1994 Peterbilt Semi driven by Timothy Johnson, 40 years old from Burlington, was westbound on W. Highway 14 near N. Harvestview Rd. At the same time, a 2001 Pontiac Aztek driven by Charmin Stevens, 44 years old from Albany, was eastbound. The vehicle operated by Stevens crossed the centerline and struck the rear tires of the propane trailer that Johnson was pulling. After hitting the trailer, the car came to rest in the middle of the westbound lane.
Stevens was pinned in the vehicle as a result of the crash and eventually extricated by Janesville Fire. After being extricated, Stevens was transported to Mercy Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Johnson was not injured in this crash and no propane was released from the trailer during this incident.
The crash remains under investigation, but neither speed nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors. Highway 14 was re-opened at 9:47 pm.
