MINERAL POINT--Workers were out and about on Tuesday cleaning up storm damage. One city worker said there were around 12 downed trees in the city. The county sheriff said that number could easily be higher, thanks to trees down in residential yards and other areas that may not have been reported.
He said other parts of Iowa County also suffered some damage--but that most of it occured in Mineral Point. They had downed trees and some downed power lines. He said crews showed up pretty quickly after the storm to start cleaning up. And even though power lines were down, the sheriff said there were not widespread power outages. In fact -- they were spotty because some trees took down power lines running to individual residences. He said Alliant Energy came out quickly to get things going again. "I think mainly the damage consists of trees that were destroyed or damaged and they'll have to be taken down the remainder of the way," said Steve Michek, the Iowa County Sheriff. "So the monetary damage I don't believe was significant."
