Janesville School District Considers 6 Percent Pay Increase

Posted: Sunday, January 6, 2013 -- 5:33 a.m.

JANESVILLE, Wis. (AP) -- Principals and other administrators in the Janesville School District could soon have the chance to earn raises of up to 6 percent.

A Janesville Gazette report says the school board is expected to discuss the proposed incentive-pay system at its meeting Tuesday.

The new system would rate administrators on skills, ability and performance, rather than award pay increases based on experience. District spokesman Keith Pennington says if all 35 administrators received the full 6 percent it would cost about $200,000 per year.

The directors, principals, assistant principals, coordinators and supervisors who would be covered by the program have an average annual salary of $98,000.

Human resources director Steve Sperry says administrators' pay was frozen in 2009, 2011 and 2012. He says they received a 2.25 percent raise in 2010.

6%??? REALLY? Who gets a 6% pay raise? Certainly not me or my spouse! I am in the wrong profession...maybe I need to get an administrator license so I can eat off taxpayer money while my kids class sizes grow and grow! I sure hope the school board is smarter than that! Especially when teachers salaries are frozen and positions cut. What a sham.

Cutting teachers and giving pay raises to administrators? Something doesn't add up here.

Thye don't deserve a 6% raise. The union has been fighting the school board about the benefits as well. Make then all prove they are worth it. A principal is like the head of a company. If he can't keep the company under control, NO RAISE.
