UPDATE: Juneau Co. Sheriff: Teen recants story, sexual assault did not happen

UPDATED Wednesday, October 23, 2013 --- 2:50 p.m.

The Juneau Co. Sheriff says a sexual assault reported by a 17-year-old girl did not happen, and she is being charged with filing a false police report.

The teenager told police she was jogging on Koval Road on September 24th when a stranger forced her into a vehicle, drove her to a wooded area and assaulted her.

The Sheriff says the victim made inconsistent statements during interviews. On October 22nd, she reportedly told a detective she fabricated the incident so she would not get in trouble for being home late after meeting a boy.

The Sheriff says he is happy the incident did not occur, but is frustrated that a false report was made.

Additional patrols were made by officers in both marked and unmarked squads after the false report.

Juneau Co. Deputies are searching for a man who reportedly sexually assaulted a teenage jogger.

The incident happened September 24th around 4:45 p.m.

A 17-year-old girl was jogging on Koval Road between 65th Street and Highway N when a man stopped and asked if she needed a ride.

When she said she didn't need the ride, the man got out, grabbed her and forced her into the backseat of the vehicle.

The victim said the man told her not to scream or run away, or he would hurt her.

She tells authorities the man drove toward Lyndon Station to an unknown wooded area. She says the man then jumped into the backseat and sexually assaulted her.

She says he then drove her back to the area where she was abducted on Koval Road and let her out.

The man is described as white, age 30-50, 5'10 to 6', 180-200 lb.

The vehicle is described as a silver or tan smaller SUV-type vehicle.

The Sauk Co. Sheriff's Office had a similar incident earlier in September on Highway 33 east of Manmound Road. Authorities say the alleged victim refuses to cooperate with police.

On October 10th, a woman reported that a sport SUV crossover type vehicle followed her to her home in Lyndon Station. The vehicle eventually left, driving east on Highway 12 and 16.

Anyone with information should call the Juneau Co. Sheriff's Office at 608-847-5649 or Crime-stoppers at 608-847-9123.

Juneau Co. Deputies say they are aware of the attempted abduction case in West Baraboo. While the vehicle description in that case is similar, these remain separate cases at this time. To read more about that incident, click HERE.
