UPDATE: Kenosha police: Standoff ends with arrest, 1 dead

UPDATED Wednesday, December 4, 2013 --- 5:15 p.m.

KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) -- Kenosha police say a standoff has ended with a woman dead and a 37-year-old man in custody.

The Kenosha News reports a SWAT team activated a noise-making device and entered the home where the standoff was taking place about 3 p.m. Wednesday. Police later confirmed the death and arrest.

WISN-TV reports the standoff started about 5 a.m., when a man called police and said his brother had shot and killed a woman in the home.

Officials in Kenosha said on Wednesday afternoon that a standoff situation that began early this morning came to an end. Officials say a man is in police custody, and a woman is dead.

Kenosha police were called to the scene of 21st and 57th around 5:30 a.m. for reports of a possible shooting inside a home. Officials say the suspects brother called 911, saying the suspect apparently told his brother about the shooting and a victim.

Earlier in the day, officials were able to get one person out of the home, but the suspect continued to refuse to come out.

Officials say pepper spray devices were set off earlier in the afternoon in another attempt to get the suspect out of the home, but that did not produce desired results.

Around 3:00 p.m., officials set off an explosive breach which forced the suspect out of the home. He was taken into custody.

Law enforcement officials have confirmed with FOX6 News the body of a female was found in the basement of the home after the suspect was taken into custody. Officials believe everyone involved in Wednesday’s incident lived inside the home.

A law enforcement official says he believes the suspect and victim were involved in a domestic relationship.

A shotgun was recovered from the home.

No additional details have been released at this time.

KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) -- Police are involved in tactical situation in Kenosha.

SWAT officers have been on the scene since early Wednesday morning. Police have been negotiating with a man inside the home.

There are reports that one person left the house, was escorted to a tactical vehicle and then taken from the scene in an ambulance. It's believed the man is still inside the house.

Walworth County's armored vehicle is on the scene.
