Local enthusiasm for the World Cup just keeps getting better as the U.S. Men's National Team continues on its quest. And backing the boys in red, white and blue isn't just helping the team.
From local restaurants to local merchants, businesses like Stefans Soccer in Madison are more than reaping the benefits of the World Cup. And that's only going to continue as we get closer to Thursday's match against Germany.
Store employees tell NBC 15 that sales have been through the roof; from jerseys to shirts to jackets and hoodies.
Why such a huge interest this time around? Local soccer experts credit the interest to a boost in soccer exposure. Technology has becoming much better since the last World Cup. Kids can log online, follow the sport on the TV, smartphone or tablet, making it easy to get excited and involved.
"The popularity has gone through the roof. Kids love getting the jerseys. They love getting their player, their favorite team. USA is big and everybody likes to get behind that” says Nick Duerst, team manager at Stefans Soccer
There are still USA jerseys available at Stefans, but if you're looking for a Mexico jersey, they're just about sold out.
USA takes on Germany Thursday at 11am Central Time.
