Madison Fire Recruits to Graduate Friday

Tomorrow 20 Madison fire recruits will graduate the fire academy, it won't be just memorable for them but for the fire chief as well. This is the first class to graduate since Steve Davis was hired as the department's chief.

For 17 weeks it's sweat, pain and growth inside the Madison fire academy walls, training that Davis says has evolved since he first became a fire fighter in 1989.

“With the computer generation, it's completely changed the way we deliver fire service,”said Davis.

While new technologies made fire service more efficient, it was the nation's worst terrorism attack on 9/11, that chief Davis says changed the fire service as a whole.

" I think it brought us closer together as a fire service and it really made us say you know what, we need to look at our service and how we can provide it and we need to be as safe as we can for our responders,”said Davis.

Since 9/11, Madison fire has trained its responders to deal with heavy rescue and hazardous situations.
