UPDATE: Madison Firefighter Rescues Woman From Downtown Attack

UPDATED: Friday, November 30, 2012 --- 11:20 a.m.

From the Madison Police Department:

A sketch has been developed in this case. Anyone with information is urged to call Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 266-6014. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for up to a $1,000 reward. Detectives working this case believe this was a stranger assault and that sexual assault was likely the motive. The MPD would like to publicly thank the off-duty Madison firefighter for his quick actions in this case, as he saved the victim from additional harm.

Address: 100 blk. E. Johnson St

Suspect: white male in his late 20's to early 30's. Blonde hair, 5'11," 200 lbs, wearing a dark hoodie or coat and red flannel shirt underneath

Victim: 21 year old female, Madison

Details: The female victim was walking home when she was grabbed from behind by the suspect. She fell to the ground and he started beating her in the face and head. An off duty firefighter saw the attack and came to her rescue. The firefighter punched the suspect in the face and he then ran off. The victim sustained several lacerations to the back of her head requiring staples.
