The MPD, including members of the Crime Prevention & Gang Unit (CPGU), recovered a loaded handgun and a sword while attempting to prevent gang related violence early Sunday morning.

Information had been developed about possible trouble at a social gathering in the 1500 block of Trailsway, where a party was being held.

Officers saw a car and a SUV leave the area. They were aware the SUV was stolen, and both vehicles were stopped. The driver of the SUV, Mr. Maurice R. Bowman, age 17, Madison, was arrested for operating a stolen vehicle.

There were five men in the car, all of whom were arrested for trespassing at the Trailsway address. A handgun and 15 to 18-inch Japanese style sword were found under the driver's seat.

This is an active and ongoing investigation.
