Madison Police arrested a man for 3rd offense OWI after officers say he drove a van into a Cottage Grove Rd. building.
It happened Thanksgiving day around 11:33 a.m. in the 200 block.
Two businesses occupy the building, including Buck's Pizza. The driver hit the building twice—once on the side containing the pizza place and another time on the side containing Hoey Apothecary.
The driver then sped off, knocking over a fire hydrant at the corner of Clover Lane and Sargent St.
Witnesses were able to give police a good description of the van.
Another officer spotted the van pulling into the East Side Shopping Center. It nearly hit two cars before stopping.
Police arrested 50-year-old LaVerne Coffey for Operating While Under the Influence-3rd offense, Failure to Notify Owner of Property Damage (2 counts) and Operating While Suspended.
He registered a .27 on a breath test.
