UPDATE: Police release name of man killed in motorcycle crash

UPDATED Tuesday, September 10, 2013 --- 7:47 p.m.

Michael D. Beale, 36, of Madison, was the only occupant of the motorcycle that was found around 6:30 a.m. on Highway 12 in the town of Springfield Monday, according to a release.

Beale was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies said excessive speed appeared to have caused the crash.

Preliminary results from a forensic examination show Beale died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the crash. According to the release, additional testing is underway.

Dane County Deputies say a 36-year-old Madison man was killed in a motorcycle crash.

It happened on Highway 12 in the Town of Springfield.

A passerby called 911 around 6:30 a.m. Monday after seeing the motorcyclist in the median.

Deputies believe the crash happened around 9:15 p.m. Sunday.

The driver was not wearing a helmet, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies say excessive speed seems to be the cause of the crash.

Authorities will release the victim's name following notification of family.

Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call the tip line at (608) 284-6900.
