A group of soccer fans plan to drive from Chicago to Brazil for the World Cup this summer, a 12,000 mile trip.

Ryan Hendricks is a filmmaker in Madison hoping to create a documentary exploring the universal sport when the tournament starts in June. Six friends, including translators, other filmmakers and crew plan to stop in 15 countries along the way meeting soccer enthusiasts across two continents.

Hendricks recently started World FC with a friend, a philanthropic group aiming to spread their love of soccer. They have already collected soccer gear and hundreds of jerseys they plan to hand out along the way.

"We don't just want to see people playing soccer around the airports of the world," said Hendricks. "Part of the reason we're taking this trip is to scout for areas we can build soccer fields and take equipment to, to children who need it. That's what this trip is for, to get face-to-face with these people."

To learn more about their trip you can check out their Kickstarter campaign and video. For more on World FC visit their website here.
