MADISON, Wis. --- An off-duty Madison police officer was attacked in a gas station parking lot Sunday night, according to an incident report posted on the police department's web page.

The officer says he saw a car driving erratically on the west side of Madison. The driver of the car apparently jumped a curb and also nearly hit another vehicle and light pole. The officer was driving home from work.

The officer followed the car into a gas station at the corner of Gammon and Watts. The incident report says he called for an on-duty officer and then told the people in the car he was a Madison police officer.

The incident report says he was sprayed with pepper-spray and three people took off running.

Sherill K. Howard, age 18 of Madison, is charged with Battery on a Police Officer. Howard is accused of using the pepper-spray.

Shalonda T. Jones, age 22 of Madison is charged with Battery on a Police Officer.
