A Madison Police officer rolled up on two vehicles stopped on East Washington Avenue early this morning. Both were in the left turn lane at Mendota Street.

The driver of one had just gotten out of his van and gone up and peered into the window of the car stopped in front of him. The van driver then approached the officer: “I think the man in the car is dead," he announced. The officer exited his squad and determined the man was not dead, but asleep. The car was in drive, and the man’s foot on the brake.

The officer began tapping on the car's windows and was eventually able to rouse the driver from his slumber. The officer asked the driver where he was coming from. The driver did not know. The officer asked the driver where he was right now. The driver attempted to pronounce "Oconomowoc" and went on to state he was in Wisconsin going to a week-long training school.

The officer asked why he had come to Madison. The driver did not know. He was arrested for drunken driving.
